REVIEWED: APARTMENT SEVEN BY GREG F. GIFUNE
APARTMENT SEVEN by Greg F. Gifune / Delirium Books (December 2011) / eBook and Signed Limited Edition Hardcover
APARTMENT SEVEN takes place around Christmas in Boston and pays homage to Lewis Carroll’s A CHRISTMAS CAROL. With that said, APARTMENT SEVEN is not really a Christmas story. The main character, Charlie Cerrone appears to have his life in order. He and his wife have been married for years and have battled the ups and downs life can hand a couple. They’ve battled addiction and both have grown professionally. They live comfortable and from Cerrone’s perspective they are very content. Until…
Cerrone finds out his wife has been texting, meeting up, and having phone conversations with another man. He finds himself searching for answers. In order to do this he takes a very dark journey through the past, present, and future. This is where the strength of the story lies. Everyone can relate to the past demons in our lives that never really seem to go away as much as we’d like them to. They affect our friendships and our relationships with our loved ones. You can try to bury them, but for some reason when you become vulnerable, they present themselves.
APARTMENT SEVEN is about the scariest things life has to offer; our personal demons, perspective, grief, and redemption. I cannot recommend this story more highly. This story will stick with you well after you’ve read it, as is the case with most of Greg’s story telling. Greg F. Gifune is truly one of the BEST writers out there. If you have not read anything by him, this is as good a place to start as any.
